Long Island Railroad
Passenger Station
Southampton, Long Island, New York
North
Main Street, between Prospect and Willow
1902
Made of
Oyster Shells and accented by brick. The long platform canopy, upheld
by pillars and scrolling brackets, had a small express building at each end
until after world war II. Inside the depot today, a pedimented
Palladian window, paneled wainscoting, curved-end benches, and working
fireplace provide a fine space for waiting.
The
station is owned and operated as a "Sunday-only" passenger station by
Long Island Railroad.
The station is
part of the village's
North Main Street Historic District, which has been on the National
Register of Historic Places since 1986.
