From the Boston Daily Globe, Aug. 1892 - "It
is safe to say that nowhere in New England, or out of it (aside from large
cities), can there be found so handsome and convenient a passenger station as
the one at Laconia by Mr. Gilbert of New York."
Romanesque Revival Style: Light grey granite with red sandstone trimmings.
Interior of oak finish. Station dimensions are 35 feet x 105 feet, and
Rotunda are 40 feet x 40 feet with covered platforms, 6,200 square feet.
The station was once used as a police station and courtroom. The
platform was enclosed to become the chamber of commerce. Today, the station
houses different businesses which are:
Blackcat Cafe,
Burrito Me,
Franklin Savings Bank,
Kramer & Hall Goldsmiths
and
Prescott's Florist & Gardens.
There is an active railroad line with no available passenger service.
