Georgia Passenger and Freight Station
Conyers, Georgia
901 Railroad Street
1891
Listed on the National Register of Historic
Places as part of a Historic District on July 5, 1990 (90000947 NRIS)
The station is 25 feet by 130 feet with a two story center section and one
story wings. The
station is made of wood.
Passenger service ended in 1972. The depot then was slated for
demolition by the railroad company. Local residents persuaded the city
to lease it from the railroad company. Today, the Rockdale Historical
Society leases the depot from CSX Transportation as a Welcome Center Museum
and Banquet Hall.
Some artifacts saved are shoeshine chairs,
benches, freight scales and equipment, and a 1920 locomotive called the "Milstead
Dinky".
There is an active railroad line with no available passenger service.
